Mountain bike & cycling timing

Chip timing for enduro, cross-country, downhill, gravel and road events. Stage start and finish lines, lap counting and checkpoint splits, with every rider's times live as they come in.

Formats we time

  • Enduro: a start and finish line on each timed stage. Liaison sections aren't timed, and stage times are added together for the overall result.
  • Cross-country and lap races: laps counted and timed, including time-limited races such as 6- and 24-hour events, solo and teams.
  • Downhill: start and finish on each run, with best run or combined times.
  • Gravel and road: start, checkpoints and finish, including individual-start time trials.
  • Criteriums and cyclocross: lap counting on short circuits.

On the trail

  • The chip is worn by the rider or mounted on the bike; we'll recommend what works for your event.
  • Side aerials beside the trail at stage starts and finishes, and mats where the surface is smooth.
  • Remote stages: readers need power, and where there's no phone signal they store every crossing and upload it later.
  • Results by stage, overall and category, including age groups and e-bike classes, live on phones and a screen at race HQ.

When hundredths decide it

RFID chip timing is ideal for big fields, stage racing and lap counting. If podium places come down to hundredths of a second, such as a downhill final or a sprint finish, use a photo-finish or beam system on the deciding line. We can work alongside it, with the chips doing everything else.

What it costs

The same hire pricing as every Split Line event: a base timing kit is $1,450 per event (up to 3 days), extra timing points are $290 each, reusable chips are $1.50 per participant, and the live results portal is priced by event size from $390. An on-site technician is $650 per day plus travel. All prices NZD excluding GST; freight at cost.

FAQ

Questions

Can you time an enduro with several stages?

Yes. Each stage gets its own start and finish line, liaison sections aren't timed, and stage times are added together for each rider's overall result.

Can you time 6- and 24-hour races?

Yes. Every lap is counted and timed for solo riders and teams, with team handovers in the transition area. Tell us your format and we'll confirm how laps and rankings are worked out.

Do you need power and signal out on the trail?

Readers need power at each timing line. Where there's no phone signal they keep recording and upload the crossings once they're back in range.
