Motocross & dirt bike timing

Lap timing for motocross club days, practice sessions, enduros and junior racing. Every rider's laps are counted and timed automatically, with live results for each moto and class.

How it works on a track

  1. A timing line across the track, usually at a narrow point, with aerials mounted either side. Mats aren't used under bikes.
  2. Each rider carries a numbered RFID tag, worn by the rider or mounted on the bike.
  3. Every pass of the line is a lap. Laps are counted and timed automatically, and positions update as riders come through.
  4. Results by moto and class are live on phones and a screen in the pits.

What we time

  • Club race days: every class from juniors to veterans, moto by moto.
  • Practice and ride days: lap times for riders to train against.
  • Enduro and cross-country: long laps and time-limited races, such as the most laps in 2 hours.
  • Junior racing: small-wheel classes with their own results.

Tell us your classes, motos and scoring format, and we'll confirm how results are worked out before race day.

Tested on your track first

Reading tags at race speed depends on where the tag sits and where the aerials point. Before your first event we set up the timing line at your track and test reads at speed with real riders, then lock in tag placement and aerial positions.

On the day, riders collect their tag at sign-on, matched to their race number, and hand it back afterwards.

Club and community racing

Split Line is aimed at club racing, practice days and community events. If your event is a championship round sanctioned by a national body, check its timing requirements with the organiser first.

What it costs

The same hire pricing as every Split Line event: a base timing kit is $1,450 per event (up to 3 days), extra timing points are $290 each, reusable chips are $1.50 per participant, and the live results portal is priced by event size from $390. An on-site technician is $650 per day plus travel. All prices NZD excluding GST; freight at cost.

FAQ

Questions

Do RFID tags read at motocross speeds?

Passive RFID tags are read in a fraction of a second, but reliable reads at speed depend on tag placement and aerial position. That's why we test on your track at race speed before your first event.

Where does the tag go?

On the rider or mounted on the bike. We recommend a placement for your track after testing, so every lap is read.

Can it replace our transponder system?

For club racing and practice days it often can, at a lower cost per rider. For sanctioned championship events, check the governing body's timing requirements first.

What do you need at the track?

Power at the timing line (mains or a generator), somewhere safe to mount aerials beside the track, and ideally phone signal for live results. Readers keep recording without signal and upload later.
